MANILA, Philippines — Sebastian Duterte launched another sharp attack against Ferdinand Marcos Jr., accusing the current administration of failing to deliver meaningful achievements for the country.
Speaking before supporters during a gathering of the Rage Coalition in Davao City on Saturday, Duterte criticized Marcos over issues involving illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption.
According to the Davao City mayor, the administration had allegedly allowed problems that were previously addressed under the previous government to resurface.
He also accused the President of supposedly aiming to prolong his stay in power, although no official proposal extending the presidential term has been approved.
During his speech, Duterte compared Marcos to his father, Rodrigo Duterte, whom he described as someone who respected the 1987 Constitution and did not attempt to extend his presidency or aggressively pursue Charter change initiatives.
The younger Duterte further claimed that political critics and allies of their family are allegedly being targeted under the present administration.
The Davao City mayor echoed remarks made by political ally Michael Defensor, alleging that the country is experiencing a form of “undeclared martial law.”
Duterte claimed that opposition voices are being suppressed despite the absence of any official declaration placing the country under military rule.
Duterte also criticized the International Criminal Court over the arrest of his father in connection with crimes against humanity allegations tied to the anti-drug campaign.
He then joked about the possibility of Ronald dela Rosa also being arrested, saying his father might eventually have company if such a scenario happens.
Malacañang has yet to issue an official response to Duterte’s latest remarks as of posting time.
