MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has expressed readiness to coordinate with the Office of the Ombudsman should it request assistance regarding the potential filing of plunder and bribery cases against Senator Rodante Marcoleta.
Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said the poll body is open to cooperation but emphasized that no official coordination request has been received yet.
He added that Comelec’s motu proprio investigation into the senator has already been dismissed and is no longer active.
Garcia also clarified that the poll body has not considered reopening the case, noting that no motion for reconsideration has been filed.
The statement came after reports that the Ombudsman recommended charges tied to alleged PHP75 million in campaign donations received during the 2025 elections.
Earlier in March, Comelec ended its probe into discrepancies in Marcoleta’s Statement of Contributions and Expenditures, citing a lack of evidence of an election violation.
However, the en banc resolution directed the agency’s Law Department to continue examining certain donors who reportedly failed to submit required contribution reports after the polls.
