MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday unveiled higher maternity benefits under PhilHealth, set to take effect on April 30, in a move aimed at improving maternal healthcare support.
The health insurance coverage for normal delivery cases in hospitals will increase from ₱9,750 to ₱29,000. Meanwhile, benefits for caesarean births will be raised from ₱37,000 to ₱58,000.
Marcos also announced improvements in maternal care services, including an increase in prenatal consultations from four to eight visits. Essential services such as laboratory tests and vaccinations are now part of the expanded package.
In addition, mothers will be entitled to three post-delivery checkups under the updated coverage.
The President said the policy is designed to help ensure that expectant mothers receive proper medical care without the added stress of hospital expenses.
