
MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung continued its strong run in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League (SGVIL) Rising Stars Cup, securing a dominant straight-set win over Canossa Academy, 25-10, 25-9, at the La Salle Green Hills Gym on Wednesday.
Rhose Almendralejo spearheaded the Thunderbolts’ offense, finishing with 11 points built on eight attacks and three service aces. Her all-around performance helped Bacolod Tay Tung secure its second victory in Division 1 action.
Supporting her effort, Cristina Gale chipped in seven points, while Faith Banguia and Alexa Bertolano added six and five points, respectively. The win followed a hard-fought opening match victory against University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, where the Thunderbolts prevailed in a tight three-set battle.
Canossa Academy, meanwhile, struggled to keep pace as Briana Diaz topped the team with eight points. The squad absorbed its second straight loss in Pool B.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Cavite handed King’s Montessori its first defeat with a 25-19, 25-19 sweep in Pool A, while De La Salle Zobel recovered from an earlier setback by defeating Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-12, 25-16, in Pool D.
In Division 2 play, several teams posted decisive wins: University of Santo Tomas-B over St. Theresa’s College-QC (25-16, 25-7), San Beda University against The Beacon Academy (25-8, 25-5), and La Salle Green Hills over Everest International Academy (25-18, 25-18).
National University-Nazareth School extended its winning streak in Pool G after defeating St. Jude Parish School, 25-18, 25-12, while Immaculate Conception Academy earned its first win at the expense of PACE Academy, 25-13, 25-15.
In Pool H, University of Batangas High School, St. John Institute-B, and Bacolod Tay Tung-B all came out victorious against their respective opponents in closely contested matches across the division.
