MANILA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday said the government continues to coordinate with Czech authorities following the arrest of fugitive former lawmaker Zaldy Co.
In a post on X, Marcos said Co was stopped at the German border after arriving from the Czech Republic but was denied entry and sent back. He is now under the custody of Czech officials.
The President earlier confirmed that Co was arrested in Prague for allegedly entering the Czech Republic without proper documents.
Malacañang said it is closely monitoring the situation while ensuring that all legal procedures are followed to facilitate Co’s return to the Philippines as soon as possible. Marcos also assured the public that updates will be provided as developments arise.
Co, a former chair of the House Committee on Appropriations, is among those allegedly linked to irregularities in flood control projects. Prior to his arrest, he was believed to be in hiding in Portugal.
Although his Philippine passport has been canceled, reports indicated he may have obtained a Portuguese passport, which could have allowed him to stay in Europe.
