MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) confirmed that an Interpol Red Notice has been issued against businessman Charlie ‘Atong’ Ang, who remains the subject of an ongoing manhunt over serious criminal allegations.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the notice was already in effect and that authorities continue to track the whereabouts of the fugitive tycoon, who is believed to still be in the country.
According to Remulla, intelligence reports indicated that Ang was last sighted in the Calabarzon region, specifically in Region 4-A, about two weeks ago. However, law enforcement units were unable to apprehend him during the operation.
“He was seen in Region 4-A. Nakita siya,” Remulla said in a media interview, noting that Ang has been moving frequently between safe locations.
Authorities earlier reported that the businessman allegedly travels with a very small group and changes residences every few days to avoid detection.
The Interpol Red Notice serves as an international alert requesting law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a subject pending extradition. However, it is not considered an international arrest warrant.
Remulla earlier disclosed that Ang may have been spotted in various locations, including Calabarzon, while earlier reports also suggested possible travel to neighboring Southeast Asian countries, though these remain unconfirmed.
The businessman has been the subject of arrest warrants issued by courts in Region IV-A in connection with the 2021 disappearance of several cockfighting enthusiasts. Authorities have also placed a multimillion-peso reward for information leading to his arrest.
