MANILA – The Palace plans to bring a case before the Department of Justice against individuals accused of spreading alleged fake news about President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s health on social media.
Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Dave Gomez said officials are currently compiling evidence that will be used in the complaint expected to be filed soon.
“We are in the process of collecting evidence and hope to file the complaint with the DOJ by next week,” Gomez said in an interview with reporters Wednesday.
Rumors about the President’s health have circulated on various social media platforms in recent days, prompting Malacañang to strongly deny the claims and label them as false.
Certain posts also raised doubts about photographs released from recent government meetings, suggesting that the images may have been edited or taken earlier.
However, the Palace insisted that Marcos remains healthy and continues to carry out his duties, including participating in official meetings and other public activities.
Earlier this week, Gomez also visited the DOJ to endorse the filing of complaints against administrators of a Facebook page accused of posting misleading information about the country’s energy sector.
