MANILA – Police Cadet Van Marie Editha Gundaya Cagasan of Baybay City, Leyte, has made history as the top graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) “Silang-Paglaom” Class of 2026, a feat celebrated by local and national leaders alike.
Leyte Congressman Ferdinand Martin Romualdez lauded Cagasan on Tuesday, describing her success as a reflection of “excellence, integrity, and unwavering commitment.”
Cagasan led 326 cadets and earned multiple honors, including the Presidential Kampilan Award, the Chief, PNP Kampilan Award, and Best in General Education. Yet, her story transcends awards. A promise to her late mother provided the strength to navigate the demanding cadet years, turning personal loss into motivation for outstanding achievement.
“What makes her journey remarkable is the resilience behind it,” Romualdez said. “It is proof that inner strength, perseverance, and devotion to family can guide one to greatness.”
Prior to her PNPA journey, Cagasan studied Biotechnology at Visayas State University (VSU) as a Department of Agriculture scholar. Romualdez noted that VSU’s nurturing environment played a critical role in shaping her intellect and character.
“VSU continues to mold young Filipinos whose dedication and accomplishments bring honor to Leyte and serve as inspiration for the nation,” Romualdez said.
Cagasan’s triumph stands as a testament to hard work, dedication, and the quiet fortitude that inspires not just her hometown, but aspiring leaders across the Philippines.
