MANILA — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has mobilized more than 12,000 officers and support personnel across Metro Manila to safeguard the public during Holy Week and the summer vacation period.
According to NCRPO, security forces will be positioned at major transport terminals, busy streets, and crowded commercial districts to manage the anticipated surge in travelers.
Maj. Hazel Asilo, NCRPO spokesperson, announced during a press briefing on Monday at Camp Crame in Quezon City that the deployment also targets areas where protests regarding fuel price hikes are expected.
Police support stations will be available at 135 transport hubs and 329 churches. “We are deploying 1,153 personnel to monitor church activities and ensure the safety of worshippers,” Asilo said.
The PNP Highway Patrol Group is collaborating with bus companies to guarantee road safety. Measures include vehicle inspections in coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), as well as driver readiness checks, according to PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
With millions traveling home for the summer, authorities caution that road accidents may rise. Data from the United Nations show that 32 individuals die each day on Philippine roads, most of whom are between 15 and 29 years old.
