MANILA – Creamline captain Alyssa Valdez has been named Press Corps Player of the Week after guiding her team to a nail-biting 25-19, 25-20, 15-25, 26-28, 16-14 win over Cignal in the PVL All-Filipino Conference preliminaries on Saturday at the Playtime Filoil Centre in San Juan City.
Valdez contributed 22 points, 13 digs, and 13 receptions in a standout performance that caught the attention of print and online reporters covering the league, which is organized by Sports Vision.
She surpassed contenders such as Farm Fresh’s Royse Tubino and Trisha Tubu, Akari’s Eli Soyud, Nxled’s Brooke Van Sickle, and Choco Mucho’s Sisi Rondina to claim the weekly honor.
The Cool Smashers, tied 6-3 with Cignal, will face off again on March 26 at Smart Araneta Coliseum with a semifinal berth on the line.
In a previous match against Farm Fresh on March 17 in Santa Rosa, Laguna, Valdez still shone with 14 points and 11 digs despite the absence of coach Sherwin Meneses and key players Jema Galanza and Bernadeth Pons.
“This is a reminder for the team and me that we’re here to fight. I just focus on doing my part and supporting my teammates when it matters most,” the 32-year-old said.
Looking ahead, Valdez highlighted the importance of solidarity. “It’s about sticking together, not proving anything. The goal is for the team to stay united until the very end,” added the three-time PVL MVP.
