MANILA – The Filipinas, the Philippine women’s national football team, will be recognized as the 2025 Athletes of the Year at the 3rd Women in Sports Awards, scheduled this Friday at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
Angel Mae Otom, a standout swimmer, will be named Para Athlete of the Year, while track competitor Brenda Ramos Zinampan will take home the Masters Athlete distinction.
Previous awardees include tennis sensation Alex Eala (2024) and Olympic boxing medalist Nesthy Petecio (2025). The event aims to celebrate Filipina athletes as role models while honoring the contributions of women sports leaders nationwide.
PSC commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo, who spoke at the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at the PSC Media Room, said the 83-award ceremony highlights the country’s ongoing push for gender equality and inclusive sports programs.
“We need to recognize our women athletes and the individuals who support them, including coaches and administrators,” Coo said.
First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos is slated to present the major awards and accept the “Ina ng Atletang Pinoy” title. Distinguished guests include Senators Vicente Sotto III, Bong Go, and Risa Hontiveros, Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino, PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio, and commissioners Edward Hayco, Fritz Gaston, and Walter Torres.
“These awards honor those who inspire the next generation of women athletes,” added Coo, who has accumulated 78 medals, four world championships, and 137 titles in her bowling career, earning her a spot in both the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame and World Bowling Hall of Fame.
The PSC, in partnership with the Philippine Commission on Women, organizes the annual celebration to uplift women’s participation in sports.
