MANILA – The Philippines is set to experience scattered rain showers as a low-pressure area (LPA) outside the country’s jurisdiction continues to influence local weather, PAGASA said Monday.
Located 1,470 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao, the LPA has a medium chance of turning into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, the agency added.
The LPA’s associated trough is expected to bring moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms over Visayas, Mindanao, Sorsogon, and Masbate, raising concerns about potential flash floods and landslides.
At the same time, the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” will continue to bring rain to Luzon’s Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and the Bicol Region, with lighter showers in Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.
Coastal warnings have been issued for eastern Southern Luzon and Visayas due to strong winds and rough seas. Northern and central Luzon will also experience moderate to strong winds with moderate to rough waters, while other regions will see milder wind conditions and calmer seas.
