Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso has approved ₱32,296,900.40 in aid for 20 patients to undergo life-saving liver transplants in India. The patients, mostly kids diagnosed with biliary atresia, will head to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital and Max Healthcare in New Delhi.
The city government recognizes the long struggle families face in funding costly procedures. “Your long journey is now going to be shorter, and hopefully God will guide you and keep your child safe,” Domagoso told parents during a meeting. The financial assistance comes from Manila taxpayers, reflecting the city’s priority on healthcare programs that save lives.
The Mayor emphasized his commitment to spending millions to save lives. “It’s from the taxpayers of the City of Manila. Hindi ako magdadalawang-isip gumastos ng milyon, mabuhay lang ang isang tao. ‘Yung pera mawawala, kikitain ulit. Pero yung buhay, walang kapalit,” he said.
The Kaagapay Program has already allocated over ₱96 million for critical medical cases, including liver transplants, heart surgeries, and cochlear implants. Hospitals in India trust Manila’s commitment to pay, allowing patients to be accepted with financial guarantees.
